Belgium: Malian Foreign minister expected in Brussels on Thursday

Brussels, Belgium - The Malian foreign affairs minister, Tieman Hubert Coulibaly, is expected on Thursday in Brussels where he will take part in an extraordinary meeting of the Council of EU foreign affairs ministers devoted to Mali, European official sources said on Wednesday.

The heads of the European diplomacy will demand a briefing on the situation in Mali after the launch of an operation by France to counter the march of jihadists to  Bamako.

The European ministers must decide on the launch of an European mission to train Malian armed forces.

Through that operation, the EU is considering to help Mali restore the capacity of its armed forces, as the final goal of the restoration of the country’s territorial integrity after jihadists seized the north last April.

The meeting be attended by General Patrick Rousiers, chairman of the EU military committee and Gilles de Kerchove, EU coordinator in the fight against terrorism.
