Kigali, Rwanda - At least one child was killed when a hand grenade exploded in the home of the Mayor of Musanze in northern Rwanda, the state-owned television station reported on Monday evening quoting police sources in the region.
It said an unknown person hurled a grenade at the house of the Mayor of Musanze district, Mrs Winifride Mpembyemungu, instantly killing a child she had adopted. There was no further damage.
The explosion has occurred only a few days after a series of murders targeting other administrative and security officials in the northern province of Rwanda.
In December 2013, a Rwandan judicial police officer, Inspector Clement Munyabuhoro, was shot dead in front of his house located in the suburb of Musanze city.
