Rwanda: New school year begins

Kigali, Rwanda - Rwanda's new school year opened on Monday but with many parents and guardians facing the challenge of how to pay school fees of their children and wards.

According to the Rwandan education ministry, about five million students of middle and upper schools were to begin the new school year.

In many districts of the capital, Kigali, classes began in some private schools but the majority of students did not attend the first day in school because they did not have registration fees and other expenses.

However, the Rwandan secretary of state for Middle and Upper Education, Mathias Harebamungu, said 'generally everything is ready for a new school year in peace'.
