Music: Reggae musicians remember Bob Marley

Reggae music - Angolan Reggae musicians remember Bob Marley – Reggae artistes in Angola, under the Association of Reggae Music Friends (NARA), will organize an international show in Luanda, the Angolan capital, 6 February to mark the 67th birthday anniversary of the 'King of Reggae music', the late Bob Marley.

The Angolan News Agency (ANGOP), quoting a press release from NARA Friday, said that singers Ras Naya from Kenya and Pierre Babréle from Martinique, both members of the Free Island Band in Paris, France, will perform at the show.

Namibian singer King Rasta, as well as Angolan singers Legalize, Sajambela, Pedro Nzaji and Loromance, will also be at the show.

Bob Marley, whose real name was Robert Nesta, was a Jamaican singer-songwriter and musician. He was the rhythm guitarist and lead singer for the ska, rocksteady and reggae band Bob Marley and The Wailers (1963–1981).

Marley remains the most widely known and revered performer of reggae music, and is credited with helping spread both Jamaican music and the Rastafari movement to a worldwide audience.

His music was heavily influenced by the social issues of his homeland, and he is considered to have given voice to the specific political and cultural nexus of Jamaica.

His best-known hits include 'I Shot the Sheriff', 'No Woman, No Cry', 'Could You Be Loved', 'Stir It Up', 'Jamming', 'Redemption Song', 'One Love' and, 'Three Little Birds', as well as the posthumous releases 'Buffalo Soldier' and 'Iron Lion Zion'.

The compilation album Legend (1984), released three years after his death, remains reggae's best-selling album, going 10 times Platinum which is also one Diamond in the US, and selling 25 million copies worldwide.

Marley was born 6 February, 1945. He died 11 May, 1981, in Miami, US, at the age of 36 following a battle with cancer.
