Music: Paris to host night of African music Saturday

Paris, France - Several African music stars, including Mali’s Mory Kante, Senegal's Baaba Maal, and Ivorian Alpha Blondy, are to feature in an African music night, slated for Saturday at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, near Paris, PANA learnt here Monday from the organizers. Malian Oumou Sangare, the famous Ivorian group Magic System, Cameroonian saxophonist Manu Dibango, and many other famous African artists will perform during the over five-hour programme which will feature different rhythms of modern African music.

According to the organizers, the concert is primarily aimed at showing the public the richness and diversity of African music, in a bid to bring it back to prominence, which is currently hampered by poor access to international TV channels.

By featuring 17 artists from nine countries in Africa, 150 musicians and dancers for five hours in a row to the public, organizers hope to take up the challenge of filling the 65,000-seater Stade de France, which will host, for the first time, a special night solely dedicated to Africa.
