MTN tasks communities against base station vandalisation

Telecommunication-Nigeria - GSM operator, MTN Nigeria, has appealed to communities in the country to partner with telecommunication operators to check the vandalisation of base stations and other facilities. MTN Regional Marketing Manager, South East, Mr. Daniel Nwankwo made the appeal in Enugu during the official launching of the company's True Value products in the region.

Nwankwo decried the vandalisation of its facilities and those of other telecommunication operators in Nigeria.

He disclosed that MTN loses an average of two generating sets a week besides other vandalisations of its base stations and other facilities.

The Regional Manager continued that in some areas new generating sets are stolen barely a week after being replaced and called for collective security for telecommunication facilities and other public infrastructures.

He continued that the way out of the theft of generators is that our communities should be partners with all the telecom operators.

As much as possible from MTN perspective we have been reaching out to our communities and there is no state we have not reached, take Enugu there is MTN Connect, University Connect in Nsukka, we are involved in reducing HIV/AIDs endemic, we are empowering women to sell recharge cards.

Nwankwo explained that True value was launched nationwide a few weeks ago we are doing the regional arm of it, that is why we are in Enugu.
