Grand-Baie, Mauritius - Congolese president Denis Sassou N’guesso, on Monday urged Mauritian businessmen to be invest in his country as it which intends to diversify, modernise and industrialise its economy. “To reach the goal, we will naturally lay emphasis on our advantages compared to the competition of both national and foreign investors,' he said in a meeting in Grand-Baie with more than 200 Mauritian industrialists and investors.
President N’guesso said Congo was actively involved in the African economic integration strategy.
'Our country gets airport infrastructure that enables it to face the increase in traffic at both internal and foreign levels,' he said.
About telecommunications, president N’guesso said the market was opened to competition where there were several private telephony operators.
“Connections with the outside world have significantly increased and, for the coming few months, the laying of the fibre optics linked to the Atlantic Ocean will be completed, which will enable Congo to improve voice, data and video connectivity at both the inside and the outside levels,' he added.
He underlined the existence of an investment code given to all national and foreign investors.
'The signatories to the establishment conventions with the government, for example, benefit from tax exemptions for a period of three to five years, on equipment and goods...'
According to him, Congo will create four special economic zones, each on the basis of the specific potentials of their installation.
