Nouakchott, Mauritania - The Council of Ministers of Sports in African Zone II has recommended the dissolution of the Supreme Council for Sports in Africa (SCSA), following a meeting which ended in Nouakchott, the Mauritanian capital, Monday. The ministers' request is based on the fact that different member states no longer pay their dues, causing a total lack of resources and a complete blockage of activities. According to them, SCSA will be replaced by a new continental body under the authority of the African Union (AU), to which member countries will allocate all the necessary resources for promoting sports.
The Sports Development Area II of the SCSA comprises Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea-Conakry, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal and Sierra Leone.
