Libya: NTC fighters control strategic points in Libyan city

Libyan National Transitional Council - Fighters of the Libyan National Transitional Council (TNC) have taken control of parts of Sebha, including the airport, 800 km south of Tripoli, the Libyan capital, according to reports from the war front. Sebha is one of Mouammar Kadhafi's last strongholds where his soldiers have been successfully holding out against the NTC forces.

Analysts say the breakthrough is likely to boost the morale of the NTC forces which faced fierce resistance from the pro-Kadhafi troops in Sirte and Beni Walid.

In Beni Walid, NTC fighters Monday re-entered the city where they waged unrelenting battles but failed to make decisive progress.

According to NTC military commanders in the field, their soldiers were not used to the tough terrain and natural obstacles.

In Sirte, despite strong resistance from Kadhafi troops, NTC fighters were able to achieve significant breakthrough and managed to move toward the city centre.

Politically, the NTC has delayed the constitution of a new Libyan government pending the return of its President, Mustapha Abdeljelil, who is currently in New York to attend the UN General Assembly.

While in New York, Abdeljelil is billed to hold talks with US President, Barack Obama, and attend a meeting organized by the US and its partners on Libya aimed at providing more support for the NTC.
