Nouakchott, Mauritania - The Mauritanian government has officially recognised Libya's national transitional council (NTC), according to a statement issued here by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
The ministry expressed Mauritania's wish to work with the transitional authorities, and reaffirmed the government's support for the efforts being made to rebuild and develop Libya.
The Mauritanian president chaired the African Union high-level panel charged with resolving the Libyan crisis, which ended with the death of Col. Mouammar Kadhafi.
The massive aerial bombing by a NATO-led Western alliance rendered the efforts of the panel ineffective.
