Libya hails Africa's solidarity and support

Tripoli, Libya - The Libyan general people’s committee (government) on Wednesday hailed the solidarity expressed by Africa to the Libyan people  as well as support to Libyan resistance against attacks by NATO which is supporting rebels against Tripoli. The committee, in a meeting in Tripoli devoted to the examination of the general situation in the country and the national political situation, also paid tribute to all free peoples across the world for supporting Libya.

The African Union (AU) in the early days of the Libyan crisis set up a high-level ad hoc committee to find a political solution and rejected any foreign interference in the internal affairs of the North African country.

Despite attempts by several former colonial powers to marginalise Africa's role, the AU has presented the only serious initiative through an order that was outlined during the 17th ordinary summit of the Pan-African organization held early this month in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, into a political plan expected to lead to direct negotiations between the stakeholders of the crisis.

The plan has been backed by Russia, China and Germany and has begun sparking the support of NATO countries involved in the military operations against Libya.

The Libyan general people’s committee, in a meeting held on Wednesday, stressed the need to take the needed measures, as Ramadan was drawing near, to offer various food products, as well as drugs to all Libyan citizens and to provide the needs for women and children.

The Libyan government also examined the situation of subsidised goods before highlighting the need to set the needed measures to supply food to all municipalities.

The Libyan general people’s committee also underlined the need to activate the actions taken by the commissions charged with listing the damage and negative effects of the UN Security Council resolutions 1970 and 1973 and compensate citizens who are victims of NATO attacks against Libya.

The committee also stressed the importance to follow and assist the families of martyrs and those injured by NATO bombardments.
