Tripoli, Libya - The Libyan television Saturday broadcast pictures of dozens of people, said to be from Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan, Turkey, Syria and Palestine, who were arrested in several cities in Libya for their involvement in a broad conspiracy to destabilise the country, the security of its citizens and undermine national unity. Also, the Libyan News Agency, JANA, citing security sources, reported that the foreign elements were set to provoke clashes with security forces and create chaos and disorder.
JANA reported that some Libyan cities have since last Tuesday been hit by acts of sabotage, which include setting fire to hospitals, banks, courts, prisons, public security and police stations as well as private property.
The same source said that the attacks were also aimed at robbing banks, setting fire to court records of some troublemakers and their relatives who are facing justice and capture weapons to be used by disgruntled elements.
The source did not rule out the possibility that the network of foreign elements is linked to the plan announced by Gen. Amos Yadlin, former head of Israeli military intelligence, on the establishment of espionage networks and cells in Libya, Tunisia, Morocco and Sudan, Egypt, Lebanon and Iran.
The Israeli general reportedly said, 'we have managed over the past four years to move forward in deploying espionage networks in Libya, Tunisia and Morocco. The activities of these networks focused on the components and potential of these countries.
'These networks are capable of executing all that we want and are able to negatively influence the situation in Libya, Tunisia and Morocco, noting that this is a great achievement after those in Iraq, Yemen, Sudan, and what will be soon accomplished in Lebanon. '
