Libya: African workers in France condemn air strikes on Libya

Paris, France - The Federation of African Workers in France (FETAF) Monday in Paris warned against the serious consequences of the strikes by the international military coalition on Libya, regretting that France and other Western countries had chosen to reject any peaceful solution. In a statement issued in the French capital, FETAF considered the decision to launch air strikes on 'unarmed civilian populations in target areas, including Bab El Azizia and Maitiga in Tripoli, Al Gardabiya airport in Sirte, Sabha, Ghat and Ghdames,' as a unilateral decision contrary to the interests of Africa. 'It is urgent for the African Union (AU) to apply to United Nations bodies, including the UN Security Council, for a reassessment of the situation to give chance to peace and put an end to military actions,' said FETAF, an organization known for its independence and earnestness.

It also hailed the AU decision to decline the invitation to attend the summit held in Paris Saturday to launch military strikes on Libya.

'We welcome AU's decision to send a mediation delegation to Libya. This autonomous decision reinforces our firm belief that Africa must necessarily free itself from the unilateral decisions contrary to its interests.' FETAF stressed.

Worried by the coalition military strikes on Libya, FETAF said it would organize in the coming days several demonstrations against the attacks across many French cities.
