Kenya-Politics: Nyamweya Says Code Violates Poll Spirit

Politics-Kenya - KFF chairman Sam Nyamweya said the Kenya football elections code as revealed by the Independent Elections Board militates against the desired all inclusive nature. "The latest developments threatens to make them exclusive" he said adding "As much as the rules are good, they will only take football back when we are supposed to be moving forward. There are no serious things to warrant any of the candidates being locked out. What is wrong with one being 30 or 35 as long as one can deliver," he said. He said the lock outs will drag them into litigations and this will take them back to square one."Let us all be allowed to contest and flop at the ballot. Voters will have the finals say and it is only fair that everybody is given a chance. We need to work as a team to take football forward," he said.

Extreme Sports chief executive Mohammed Hussein has hit out at the IEB for what he termed as a violation of the constitutional and fundamental rights of the aspirants. "For the eight years I have been in football, I have never seen a managerial job that dictates one must be of a certain age," Hussein said. "These age groupings, according to our constitution, are a violation of our fundamental rights as citizens and specifically the youth. Fifa statutes, which we are being governed by, stipulate that nobody should be subjected to any form of discrimination," he added. "We shall be making an appeal to the IEB and Fifa, asking them to give the youth of this country a chance to manage football," he said.
