Kenya-Justice: Media body to rule on Muthaura ICC story

Media body to rule on Muthaura ICC story - The Media Council of Kenya will today deliver a ruling on whether the Standard Group erred by publishing a story linking the Head of Civil Service Francis Muthaura to Kenya's quest to withdrawal from the Rome Statute.

Muthaura, who is also the Secretary to the Cabinet had complained to the Council about an article published by the Standard last January indicating that he was part of a task force formed to advise the government on the best options for Kenya to withdraw from the Rome Statute that creates the International Criminal Court.

Muthaura is one of the six suspects the ICC Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo want charged over the 2007/2008 post election violence. The confirmation of charges hearing for Muthaura alongside Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Post master General Hussein Ali is scheduled to begin on Wednesday at the Hague. "At that time, the country was in the global limelight following the summoning of its key leaders over their alleged involvement in the post-election violence that hit the country after the 2007 general elections," said the media council in a statement yesterday. Muthaura had complained to the Council, that an article titled, Kenya's secret plot against the ICC was inaccurate, misleading and false.
