Tripoli, Libya - The head of the new Military Council in Libya, Abdelhakim Belhadj, has confirmed the death of the former Libyan leader, Mouammar Kadhafi, saying 'Kadhafi died of his injuries Thursday in Sirte,' after he was captured by the National Transitional Council (NTC) forces. PANA reports that Kadhafi's death puts an end to the Libyan revolution, carried out over six months by that NTC forces who were supported by the heavy fire from NATO aviation forces.

It also paves the way for the establishment of a transitional government as promised by the NTC.

PANA recalls that during her brief visit Tuesday to Tripoli, US Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, had offered to 'help Libyans arrest or kill' Kadhafi.

According to latest reports, Libyans were thrown into wild celebrations, chanting Allah Akbar (God is Great in English) across the country as news of the capture and death of Kadhafi spread.

They are celebrating the end of a regime that lasted 42 years and which the NTC intends replace with a new independent and democratic Libya.
