Security: 5 Lake Chad region nations plot defeat of Boko Haram

Abuja, Nigeria – The fourth meeting of military and security chiefs from the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and Benin Republic began here Monday with Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Lt.-Gen. Aliyu Gusau Mohammed, urging member nations to forge closer collaboration towards defeating the Boko Haram insurgents.

Burkina Faso military leadership 'settles'on Zida

Burkina Faso's military leadership appears to have settled on Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Zida Yacouba as head of state to lead the transition to a democratically-elected president. Less than 24 hours after long-term President Blaise Campaore resigned under intense pressure from the population, an apparent power struggle emerged in the army raising fears of a possible confrontation.

2015 AFCON: Ghana yet to decide on 2015 AFCON hosting

2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) - Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama says the government has not taken any decision yet to host the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The state-owned Graphic newspaper on Tuesday quoted him as saying in London that the government would critically weigh the options before arriving at any decision on whether to host the tournament or not.
