Nigeria/2014 CHAN: Football authorities happy with Eagles' performance

African Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Afric - The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has hailed the country's impressive performance in its debut outing at the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa, where it has now reached the semi-finals.

Chair of NFF's Technical Committee Chris Green made the commendation here Tuesday, saying the team's participation in the CHAN had been remarkable.

Nigeria, which missed the first two editions of the tournament designed exclusively for players in Africa's national championships, will take on Ghana here Wednesday in the quest to reach the final.

The home-based Super Eagles of Nigeria played themselves into reckoning last Saturday when they came from three goals down at the interval to turn the table against Morocco and win 4-3 in the quarter-finals.

That performance was a far cry from that of the same team that lost its opening group match 1-2 to Mali, before rebounding to beat Mozambique and host South Africa and progress to the knockout stage.

Green assured that the team will get all the necessary support to continue to excel at the championship, due to round off 1 Feb.

'These guys are trained to be the professionals that they are, and ours is to make sure that we provide everything that they require, everything that they need, everything that they desire, to making sure that they do well in their trade, they do well in what they are doing right now,' the NFF official said.

PANA reports that the CHAN started with only eight teams in 2009 and was later upgraded to a 16-team tournament in the second edition in 2011.
