Roadmap to transition in Mali

Malian parliament adopts roadmap to transition - The Malian Parliament on Tuesday adopted  a roadmap to speed up the political transition in the country as French and Malian forces are pushing to secure Northern cities freshly recaptured.

The international community had urged Malian authorities to prepare a roadmap aimed at accelerating the restoration of constitutional order through credible elections as early as possible as well as the re-establishment of national unity by relaunching the political dialogue in a move to secure the country’s territorial integrity.

The country’s economic recovery should be re-launched according to the roadmap after a year of economic malaise due to the crisis.

The transition is estimated to cost some CFA Franc 200 billion, an amount which should be raised by the Malian government and its partners.

Mali’s caretaker president, Dioncounda Traore, wants elections to be held by 31 December.
