Security - Three suspected Islamic terrorists were arrested by the regional security services in Brakna, 250km South-east of the capital, Nouakchott, over the last 24 hours, the Mauritanian news agency 'al Akhbar', which is close to the moderate Islamist movement, reported Tuesday.
Suspected to be members of Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), the three terrorists who were fleeing ongoing fighting in northern Mali have been taken to Nouakchott for questioning.
Mali's neighboring countries, including Mauritania and Senegal, are on the alert to prevent terrorists ousted from northern Mali by the French army from infiltrating their territory.
Mauritanian authorities said they have taken all security arrangements to deal with the situation and called on people to be extremely vigilant.
