2014 African Nations Championship - South Africa has assured of an impressive crowd attendance in the remaining matches at the ongoing 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN), despite the elimination of the host nation from the tournament. There are fears that South Africa's ouster in the group stage of the competition will turn the local fans away, and the fears have materialised with a relatively low attendance in matches played since the host nation failed to progress beyond the group stage.
But the Chief Executive Officer of the tournament's Local Organising Committee, Mvuzo Mbebe, said there was no cause for alarm as his committee would mobilise the fans to the various venues for the remaining matches.
He said the committee would fall on the experience garnered last year, when host South Africa was eliminated in the quarter-final of the Africa Cup of Nations.
'Despite losing out, it did not affect the attendance in the remaining matches,’’ he said of the Nations Cup, disclosing that the committee would give out complimentary tickets to fans and provide adequate transport to convey them to match venues.
PANA reports that after a two-day (Thursday/Friday) break, the 2014 CHAN will resume on Saturday with quarter-final matches.
