Brussels, Belgium - Belgium has sent a 40-strong military contingent to Mali to support the France-led efforts in the war against Islamist rebels in northern Mali, PANA reported Monday, quoting an official Belgian government communique.
The contingent is taking a number of helicopters equipped with medical facilities to Mali.
According to the communique, the helicopters will be used to evacuate the wounded from the war front.
The Belgian government also said that its soldiers will not be involved in the battle on the ground.
