Health: Togo moves to prevent cancer of the uterus in Togo

Cancer of the uterus - The Togolese authorities will soon make available the vaccine, called “Cervarix”, in a bid to prevent cancer of the uterus among women, PANA learnt Friday from official sources here.

The vaccine will cost 17,200 FCAF or about US$ 35.

According to Professor Koffi Akpadza, head of the Gyneacology-Obstetrics service, the vaccine will be used on young girls, aged between 9 and 11 years, and who have yet to start sexual activities.

He said the vaccine will last 10 years.

'Sensitization campaigns and screening of women aged more than 25 years will be also be carried out,' Dr. Kokou Agoudavi, the NCD National Programme Coordinator, said.
