Nouakchott, Mauritania - The Mauritanian government will compensate victims of a fire incident in a prison in Zouerate, a mining town located 600 km north of Nouakchott, PANA learnt Tuesday from reliable sources.
Two prisoners died and five others were seriously burnt during the incident.
Speaking while visiting this city Monday, the Mauritanian Minister of Justice, Sidi Ould Zeine, said the state would take up its responsibilities by compensating the families of the deceased and treating surviving victims.
The minister said the fire incident will be probed to unravel those responsible and determine the causes of the tragedy.
He also said the prison will be redesigned to prevent a repeat of the tragic event.
