Security: Libya condemns Benghazi attack, orders 3-day national mourning

Libya's interim government has strongly condemned Monday's car bomb attack at the gate of a military academy in the eastern city of Benghazi, in which seven soldiers were killed and 18 others injured.

The government also ordered a three-day national mourning, starting Tuesday, according to a government statement released in the capital city of Tripoli.

The government described the attack as a 'criminal, terrorist and coward act', saying it targeted Libyan citizens and was aimed at jeopardising the establishment of state institutions, sowing the seeds of chaos and destabilising the country.

The government reaffirmed its willingness to tighten security and restore calm all over the country.

Benghazi, where the 2011 uprising that toppled Mouammar Kadhafi started, has been wracked by assassinations and other crimes.
