The Ghana government has approved a budget of 24.677 million cedis for the country's participation in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil in June.
An official statement, signed by the Minister for Information and Media Relations, Mr. Mahama Ayariga, said cabinet had approved the release of 10.5 million cedis to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to finance Ghana’s participation in the group stage of the competition. (US$1=2.5 Ghana cedis)
It said a further amount of 14.177 million cedis had also been budgeted to cover the expenses of the Black Stars should they qualify for subsequent stages of the competition.
The statement said cabinet expressed great confidence in the Ghana Black Stars and their technical team and was satisfied with the preparations made so far towards Ghana’s participation in the tournament.
Ghana is paired in the same group as Germany, Portugal and the US, described as the “Group of Death”.
Ghana reached the quarter finals of the 2010 competition.
