Security - Armed robbers Wednesday night attacked foreign exchange operators outside Nigeria's main gateway Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, killing two policemen and escaping with a huge amount of money, the local media reported Thursday.
The robbers, numbering about 10, were said to have engaged in a 30-minute gun duel with policemen attached to the airport, during which the two policemen were killed.
Spokesman for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Yakubu Dati confirmed the attack, but said the level of casualties was still being ascertained.
“The situation has since been brought under control by the swift intervention of joint security force. They were apparently attempting to rob a bureau de change operator near the airport. Normal operations and flight have not been affected by the incident,” Dati said
Last year, robbers also attacked the Bureau-de-change operators at the same airport, making away with millions of dollars.
