2014 FIFA U-17 WWC: Nigeria beats China 2-1 in Group D opening match

2014 FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup in Costa Rica - Nigeria beat China 2-1 Sunday in a Group  D opening match at Alajuela in continuation of the 2014 FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup taking place in Costa Rica.

Player of the match Rasheedat Ajibade put the Nigerians ahead in the 21st minute to take the half-time score to 1-0 for Nigeria.

Uchenna Kanu increased the tally for Nigeria in the 63rd minute before Fan Yuqiu struck a minute later to pull one back for the Chinese.

Match statistics indicated that Nigeria dominated the encounter with 20 shots on goal and six corner kicks, against China's five shots on goal and three corner kicks.

Africa's two other representatives at the tournament, Ghana and Zambia, played their opening matches on Saturday, with Ghana winning and Zambia losing.
