Belgium: France requests for more Belgian troops for EUTM

European Mission for the training of Malian army – France has officially requested for 30 more Belgian soldiers to help support the European Mission for the training of Malian army (EUTM), according to a press statement published by the Belgian government here Wednesday.


The request was sent to the Belgian Foreign Affairs Minister, Didier Reynders, by his French counterpart, Laurent Fabius, the statement indicated, adding that the training programme will begin early April.

Belgium has already deployed 75 soldiers for the mission and they are part of the unit to provide security at the training camps.

The two Belgian aircraft deployed to support the French-backed 'Serval' operation dealing with rebels in northern Mali have been turned over to the EUTM.
