High Court of Justice Mali - Malian MPs have unanimously approved the creation of the High Court of Justice, a legal body empowered to try the president and members of Government, PANA learned from parliamentary sources on Friday.
Composed of 9 members and as many deputies, who are all MPs from the majority and the opposition, the High Court of Justice will try the President of the Republic and ministers indicted by the National Assembly for high treason or acts characterized as crimes or offences committed in the performance of their duties as well as their accomplices.
The indictment is determined by open ballot by a majority of two-thirds of MPs. The law sets the rules for its operation, as well as the procedure.
Observers say the creation of the court is seen as a step for good governance.
