Nigeria sacks head of civil aviation regulatory body

Civil Aviation Authority, Dr. Harold Demuren Nigeria - Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan has sacked the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Dr. Harold Demuren.

A government statement on Monday night said Dr. Demuren was sacked after “a careful consideration” of Dr. Demuren’s “unsatisfactory response to the numerous concerns of stakeholders in the aviation sector.”

The statement did not say who will take over from Dr. Demuren.

The job of the NCAA boss has been on the line since last year's crash, on the outskirts of Nigeria's commercial city of Lagos, of a Dana Air's plane that left at least 159 dead.

The two legislative chambers - the Senate and House of Representatives - have called for his removal in the aftermath of the crash, which they blamed on negligence by the regulatory authorities.
