Brussels, Belgium - A Moroccan national, Hassan Belghi, who has been allegedly involved in robberies in the North African country, was arrested on Tuesday in Belgium, according to Belgian police.
Police in the Belgian capital, Brussels, said Balghi was the mastermind of last February's attack against a bullion van in Tangier, Morocco, during which the robbers made away with 700,000 Euros (7.5 million dirhams).
He had also participated in a 2002 bank robbery during which a security guard was killed, according to the police.
Morocco has requested the extradition of Balghi.
Brussels and Rabat are bound by an agreement under which Balghi will be extradited in the next few days to the Kingdom of Morocco, according to a judicial source.
