Lomé, Togo - The Togolese Tennis Federation (TTF) is bent on popularising the game in 2014 through the organisation of mini tennis tournaments, the federation said in a document made available to PANA here at the weekend.
As part of the move, five main actions are planned, and they include enhancing the national sports study training centre (CNESE), implementing the programme aimed at developing tennis in clubs as well as the youth tennis Initiative (ITJ), training tennis actors and organising competitions.
The Federation will also use the Togolese tennis inter-club championship, which runs from May to November, to build the capacity of its players.
In September 2014, the TTF will organise training for coaches and referees in readiness for the second stage of the U-18 youth tennis Initiative/Confederation of African Tennis (ITF/CAT) in West Africa, followed in December by the 'prize money' tournament for the seniors.
Although Togo has good tennis players, the sport is poorly funded by the government.
