Judges suspend work in dispute with lawyers-Tunisia

The disagreement between Tunisian judges and lawyers took a new turn on Monday with the Tunisian magistrates association suspending work in all courts for three days, according to judicial sources.

The lawyers for their part will on Wednesday hold a protest sit-in in front of the courts followed by a march to demand judicial reforms and better defence of rights in the country.

The disagreement between these two judicial bodies erupted on last 21 February when a judge was attacked by lawyers for issuing a warrant to detain a lawyer in a fraud case.

Efforts by several prominent persons and the Office of the Prime Minister to mediate have so far failed to resolve the matter.
