Presidential polls - Mauritania’s opposition Forum for Unity and Democracy (FUD) has set conditions that must be met before the country can hold a free and fair presidential election later this year.
The conditions were contained in a statement late Sunday at the end of the FUD general meeting in the capital city of Nouakchott.
Ahead of the polls, FUD called for a 'credible political oversight, with the neutrality of the state and its agencies', and sufficient technical preparations.
The party said if the conditions were met, it would participate in the polls set for June/July, adding that it was ready for dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues.
All but one of the presidential elections held in Mauritania since 1992 have been described as flawed.
