Libya’s ex-rebels recruited as policemen

Tripoli, Libya - Some 841 former Libyan rebels were Thursday officially integrated into the police force, affording the government the opportunity to control the ex-fighters.


Speaking at the recruitment exercise, the Libyan Home Affairs minister, Mohamed Abdelaziz, said more former rebel fighter would be drafted in the coming weeks.

He said several ex-rebels were being trained in the West and South Libya, adding that efforts were currently being made to provide the security forces, estimated to number 120,000 soldiers, with adequate equipment.
