The European Union (EU) welcomes election of members of Libya's constitution drafting Committee - The European Union (EU) has praised Libyans for the peaceful election, on 20 February, of members of the Constitution drafting Assembly, PANA learnt from official sources here.
'The Libyan people have proved, once again, their commitment to a new Libya based on respect for democratic principles and fundamental liberties,' the EU said in a communique issued here Wednesday.
The EU also congratulated the Libyan national electoral High Commission 'for all your efforts to conduct the elections in good circumstances'.
The EU expects this constituent Assembly, made of 60 members, to 'act in an open spirit, a spirit of protection for the rights of all Libyans', the communique indicated.
The EU, however, condemned the violent incidents which took place in certain areas of the country, where voting did not take place.
