Kenya: IGAD FMs on solidarity visit to support peaceful Kenyan polls

Kenyan polls - East African foreign ministers have arrived in Kenya on a solidarity mission ahead of the country’s first election under a new constitution on 4 March, the regional Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) said Wednesday.

IGAD said its Council of Ministers arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, on a 'goodwill mission'.

'Its aim is to show the region’s solidarity with the government and people of Kenya,' said an IGAD statement.

Ethiopia's Foreign Minister Tewodros Adhanom, is leading the delegation.

The ministers plan to meet with the commissioners of Kenya's Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and any institutions whose role during the elections will be crucial.

IGAD is a regional organization in the Horn of Africa with membership from eight countries -- Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda.

IGAD has deployed a 20-member Observer Mission to Kenya.
