Citing security problems, the Libyan authorities on Tuesday closed the Ras Jadir border crossing between Libya and Tunisia, according to Chief security officer, Col. Mohamed Jarafa.
'The decision to close the border crossing was taken following an attack by an armed group which wanted to organize the escape to Tunisia of a wanted Libyan,' Col. Jarafa told the Libyan news agency.
'The fugitive was arrested and detained by the Directorate in charge of security at the border crossing. However, he escaped during the attack by the armed group,' he said.
According to Col. Jarafa, the border crossing on the Libyan side will remain closed and will reopen only after adequate protection measures are put in place.
