Lagos, Nigeria - Suspected Boko Haram insurgents killed 29 students of the Federal Government College in Buri-Yadi in Nigeria's North-east Yobe State on Monday night, the local media reported Tuesday.
It said the insurgents slaughtered the students, instead of killing them with guns - their usual style - in order to avoid attracting attention.
The victims were reportedly burnt to ashes after the insurgents set fire to the school, located 55km from the state capital, Damaturu.
The attack on the college is the latest in a series of violence targeting schools in the state.
Yobe is one of the three states which the federal government has put under a state of emergency in an effort to curtail attacks by the violent sect Boko Haram. Others are Adamawa and Borno States.
