Tripoli Libya - Libyan authorities are to close five prisons in Misrata, 200km east of the capital city of Tripoli, and their inmates transferred to the new Remand Centre in the city.
According to Libyan Minister of Justice Salah al-Marghini, who announced the plan, the measure is intended to improve the conditions of detention of inmates and stop violations of prisoners' rights.
The transfer of prisoners to the new Remand Centre will be made during the second half of this year, the minister said.
Mr. Al-Marghini had said, on 20 February, that his department will put an end to the violation of prisoner’s rights in Misrata by transferring 2,000 inmates to the Remand Centre, located in the head office of the faculty of the Air Force in Misrata and managed directly by the police.
