Port Louis, Mauritius - The population of Mauritius increased by a total of 4, 865 people between 2011 and 2012, according to statistics released here Tuesday.
Statistics Mauritius indicated that as at 31 December 2012, the population of the island stood at 1,293,549, representing an increase of 4,865 persons over the population as at 31 December 2011.
Other statistics revealed that the number of live births registered in 2012 was 14,492, compared to 14, 282 in 2011.
A total of 9,334 deaths occurred in the island in 2012, compared to 9,170 in 2011, while 10,376 marriages were registered in 2012 as against 10,499 in 2011.
