Nigeria: 8 die in Nigeria road crash

Lagos, Nigeria - All eight passengers and driver of a commercial minibus died Sunday evening when the vehicle rammed into a truck at the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Nigeria's South-west, the local media reported Monday.

The report said the speeding minibus, which was heading to the nation's commercial city of Lagos, rammed into the truck as it was turning on the freeway.

The impact was such that it took rescuers about one hour to retrieve the mangled bodies of the passengers and driver from the wreckage, it said.

Though accurate data are not easy to come by, it is believed that thousands die on Nigeria's mostly cratered roads annually due to a combination of the bad roads and poor driving habits, including excessive speeding.
