Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture - The National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture of Nigeria (NACCIMA) and the Niger Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Cottage Industry have jointly set up the Nigeria-Niger Chamber of Commerce.
The private Guardian newspaper reported Monday that the joint chamber is aimed at enhancing bilateral trade and serving as a vehicle for promoting cross border trade within the region.
According to a communiqué issued at the end of the first General Assembly of the joint Chamber, held under the aegis of the Nigeria-Niger Joint Commission for Co-operation, in the northern state of Kano, Governor Musa Kwankwaso urged stakeholders of both countries to work in harmony towards concretising business in order to enhance transactions between the two countries.
He commended the two chambers for revitalising the existing mechanisms towards achieving the goals of the First Trade and Investment Summit between Kano and the Republic of Niger held in the previous year.
The Governor noted that there are high expectations on the need for improved bilateral trade between the countries.
NACCIMA President Herbert Ajayi expressed satisfaction at the establishment of the Joint Chamber, which has been featuring in the Agenda of the Nigeria-Niger joint Commission for over 25 years.
Nigeria and Niger are both members of the sub-region economic bloc Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Apart from sharing a common border, the two countries also have a lot of similarities in terms of language and culture .
