Free access to health care - The Congolese government has said it will put in place a mechanism which will guarantee free access to health care for all its poor citizens by 2014, the Congolese Health General-Director, Alexis Elira Dokekias, said here Friday.
Dekekias said access would be free for emergency cases, children suffering from malaria, HIV positive persons, pregnant women and deliveries through caesar.
He said that Congo spends about CFA F 4 billion to provide free access anti-retroviral drugs, over CFA F 3 billion for malaria drugs, over CFA F 2 billion for deliveries by ceasar and around CFA F 4 billion for drugs against tuberculosis.
'The law has already been adopted. We are currently preparing the decrees for its quick implementation. The first semester of 2014 is likely to be the experimental phase. If it works out well, it will then be expanded,' Dokekias said.
