The American government has commended Gambia and its people on the occasion of the West African nation's 49 independence anniversary, PANA reports from here Thursday.
Gambians on 18 February celebrated their nation's independence from Britain in 1965.
The US Embassy in The Gambia posted a statement in its Facebook page, saluting the West African nation and its people.
According to the statement, American Secretary of State John Kerry has sent out best wishes to the Gambians.
‘‘We celebrate with you on this joyous occasion, and look forward to working with you to build a better future for all Gambians,' Kerry was quoted as saying.
He added: ‘‘The United States wishes the government and people of The Gambia a festive celebration and prosperous year.’’
