Bamako, Mali - The EU Council President, Herman Van Rompuy, arrived here Wednesday for a two-day working visit, PANA learnt from official sources. According to the sources, the visit will enable Van Rompuy discuss the level of cooperation between Mali and the EU with Malian officials.
Van Rompuy's visit followed that of the Malian Head of government, Oumar Tatam Ly, on 5-6 February to Brussels where he attended the 2nd meeting of the monitoring Group of Malian donors.
While in Mali, Van Rompuy will go Koulikoro (70 km North-East of Bamako) where the European Mission of Malian military training (EUTM) institution is located.
He will also address Malian parliamentarians and meet with the Special Representative of the UN General Secretary and Head of the UN Mission for the stabilization of Mali (MINUSMA), Bert Koenders.
On Thursday, he will meet with the French Forces Commander in Mali ('Serval'), Gen. Marc Foucaud, before leaving for Benin in continuation of a West African tour which will also take him to Niger.
