Africa, South America - President Jacob Zuma will lead a South African delegation to the 3rd Africa-South America (ASA) Summit to be hosted in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea on Friday.
Presidential spokesman Mac Maharaj said the Summit is being convened by the African Union (AU) under the theme 'Adopting Strategies and Mechanisms to reinforce South-South Cooperation'.
The ASA Partnership aims to further solidify South-South cooperation by both regions in all spheres of political and socio-economic development.
This relationship can be traced back to the First and Second Africa-South America Summits held in Abuja, Nigeria (2006) and Margarita Island, Venezuela (2009).
The two Summits expressed a clear intention by African and South American Heads of State and Government to closely work together in various areas of South-South cooperation.
The ASA partnership is organised around eight domains in which joint projects by Africa and South America are envisaged, namely: Agriculture, Agro-Industry and Environment; Educational and Cultural Issues; Institutional Strengthening, Governance and Public Administration; Peace and Security and Related Issues; Social Issues, Sports and Related Matters; Science, Technology and ICT; Trade, Investment and Tourism as well as Infrastructure, Transportation and Energy.
