Government/Burundi: President reshuffles cabinet

Politics - President Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi has reshuffled his cabinet following the recent sacking of Bernard Busokoza, Senior Vice President in charge of political, security and administrative issues, PANA reported Tuesday.

According to a decree issued here Monday evening, five new ministers were appointed.

They are: Dieudonné Giteruzi (Communal Development); Tharcisse Nkezabahizi (Telecommunications, Information, Communication and Relations with Parliament ); Marie Rose Nizigiyimana (Commerce, Industry and Tourism); Ms. Virginia Ciza (Transport, Public works and Equipment) and Ernest Mberamiheto (Good Governance).

The reshuffle came 72 hours after the appointment of Prosper Bazombanza as the new Vice- President.

Portfolios that have been affected by the reshuffle were left vacant, following the recent resignations of Ministers of Unity for National Progress (UPRONA , former single party) in solidarity with Busokoza .

The new Minister of Good Governance comes from a dissident wing of the Front for Democracy in Burundi (FRODEBU, parliamentary opposition).
