Tunisia calls for strengthening of Arab Maghreb Union

The Tunisian Constituent National Assembly on Monday called on various identifiable groups in the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) to help find solutions to economic and social challenges that were hindering its integration.

In a statement issued on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the creation of the AMU), the Assembly said politicians, civil society organizations and intellectuals should work at finding a a way out of the difficulties.

It stated that it would support efforts of the leaders aimed at speeding up the revamping of the AMU's structures and the holding of a summit of heads of state as well as the ordinary session of the advisory council to achieve the strategic objectives of the organization.

Countries in the Arab Maghreb Union are Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and Mauritania.
